2002 Maserati - Maserati was founded in 1914 by Alferi, Ettore, and Ernesto Maserati in Bologna, Italy. The trident, which is part of the Italian automakers logo, comes from a statue of the Roman God Neptune which was located in a square in the center of the city.. In 1957, Maserati officially pulled out of racing with more concentration on building its grand touring cars such as the 3500 GT. After changing hands twice, Fiat took over ownership of the company in 1993. On July 1, 1997, Fiat handed over total ownership and management of Maserati to Ferrari. The Maserati factory received a complete renovation, and in 1998 the company introduced the 3200 GT. After a ten year absence from the North American market, the 3200 GT based Spyder marked the return of Maserati to American Shores. The Spyder was followed shortly by the Coupe.
